Meet the Owner

Hi. My name is David Caban and I love the Internet.
I’ve been on the Internet regularly since 1997 when I got my first email address and started exploring the World Wide Web. For about six years, I taught computer software like Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project, as well as MacroMedia DreamWeaver to people of all levels. Some of the clients I worked with include KeyBank, Ernst & Young, First Energy, and Rockwell International.
My first website was on Tripod.com and was really terrible. Since those beginnings, I have built websites by hand-coding HTML in Notepad, taught myself PHP and MySQL, and dabbled a little in programming Flash and Javascript. Also on the website side of my life, I worked with a major media organization to get their corporate-enforced minimalist website to rank #1 for a variety of highly popular keywords. I’ve also provided search engine optimization analysis for various private clients including a subcontractor of NASA.
I’m based in Cleveland, Ohio. In my spare time, I volunteer at a local community radio station and handle the selection, ordering, installation and maintenance of radio studio equipment.
Yeah, I know … “so what?”
I’m just letting you know that I’m comfortable with computing technology and have a history of successfully explaining software and technology clearly to other people.
And, I have made money on the Internet …
I have a variety of niche websites on the Internet and, in the past three years, I have actually made some money (“gross income”) on the internet. Not enough to make me independently wealthy, but a nice little chunk of change.
The actual amount I earned is not important for one reason: I spent as much and more on software, new programs, and ebooks to further my education. (That’s a politically correct way to say I kept getting distracted by all the different directions you can go in the world of website design for profit.)
In other words, despite being comfortable with websites and computing technology, I’ve actually lost money (“net loss”) due to an inability to focus and stay committed to one direction.
Even if you don’t have the technical and teaching background, perhaps that sounds a bit like you … wandering unfocused through the internet, falling prey to the professional marketers who are trying to get you to buy the next “shiny object” that will bring you untold riches from the internet.
It’s time to get focused …
I’ve finally realized that the reason I’ve stumbled so aimlessly is because I keep letting my background get in the way.
Because I “know so much” about website design, programming, search engine optimization and general technology, I often read through the “systems” that others propose, and then looking at ways to improve the systems or find fault with them rather than implement the systems to their fullest extent.
This is my grand effort to change … in a very public way.
Welcome to my public experiment in finding the focus and follow-through to develop a profitable on-line business. I hope it inspires you to take action yourself, stick with something to the end, and hopefully see a payoff for your efforts.
